Nursing Strike Deadline

syndication-the-tennessean-69

(New York, NY) — Nurses at 12 private hospitals in New York City say they’ll walk off the job on January 12th unless they get a new contract. The New York State Nurses Association, representing about 20-thousand nurses at hospitals including New York-Presbyterian, Montefiore and Mount Sinai, gave their ten day notice and say it would be the largest nurses’ strike in city history.

Pay and benefits, staffing levels and protections against workplace violence are said to be the main sticking points. Another one-thousand nurses represented by the same union at three Northwell Health hospitals on Long Island are threatening to strike on that same day over similar issues. The ten-day notice is required by law to give hospitals time to prepare for a possible walkout.
