(New York, NY) — Zohran Mamdani’s wife is hinting what she’ll do once he becomes Mayor. Rama Duwaji tells New York magazine that she’s going to be focused on her career after Zohran, or Z as she calls him, takes office on January 1st. The 28-year-old said the sudden spotlight of public life has been challenging. She expressed frustration at being known primarily as “Zohran Mamdani’s wife” rather than for her own accomplishments as an illustrator and creator.
Throughout her husband’s mayoral campaign, Duwaji stayed largely out of the media, but is now speaking out about how the increased fame has shifted attention away from her work and personal identity. Now, she says at the end of the day she’s not a politician, but as the city’s first lady, she wants to leverage her platform to support under-recognized and emerging artists across the city. She emphasized a desire to elevate creative voices and contribute to the cultural community in New York, while balancing her own professional ambitions with her role alongside the mayor.
