(New York, NY) – The stars were out this week in New York City. With Christmas rapidly approaching — Santa was busy — and so were the cast and crew of “Marty Supreme” — the feature film from director Josh Safdie and A24 Films.

Safdie, a native New Yorker, has a knack for including the Big Apple in his films — and “Marty Supreme” (due out in theatres Christmas Day) — is no exception. The movie tells the story of Marty Mauser, an aspiring ping pong or table tennis champion. His tale is loosely based on the real life of Marty Reisman — a Manhattan born ping pong champion.

In this section of the film’s trailer, 77 WABC owner-operator John Catsimatidis plays the father of Mauser’s close friend.

The reviews are coming in, and overall the film’s been praised for its direction, screenplay, score, and editing. Timothée Chalamet’s performance has been called a “career best” and “career defining.” It was named one of the top ten films of 2025 by both the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute. The film received three Golden Globe nominations at the 83rd awards: Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Actor for Chalamet, and Best Screenplay for Josh Safdie and Ronald Bronstein.

Tuesday, December 16, 2025 the film made its official New York City debut. John and Margo Catsimatidis were there. And so were the stars.

As for Catsimatidis — a longtime member of SAG-AFTRA due to his radio hosting career — it’s his first appearance in a feature film. It also includes a fun and notable quirk that’s apparent in Safdie’s films — he likes to cast New York City radio legends. For Mr. Catsimatidis — having hosted the Cats Roundtable for years and now the owner of 77 WABC — those bona fides are obvious. Maryanne from Brooklyn of Howard Stern Show fame is also in “Marty Supreme” — she plays a shoe saleswoman. In 2019’s “Uncut Gems,” longtime WFAN host Mike Francesa played a bookie who took in bets from Adam Sandler’s character.
