(New York, NY)  — There’s a warning from doctors this holiday season: Christmas can be dangerous to your health. Studies show that Christmas Day has the highest number of heart-related deaths. Doctors call is the Christmas Coronary Effect. It’s caused by holiday stress, overeating, disrupted routines and cold weather making your blood clot more easily.

Meantime, you’re not out of the woods once Santa arrives.  They say December 26th and New Year’s Day are the next two common days for heart attacks.  A word of advice from the medical community- watch your diet and how much booze you consume during the holiday season. .

Cardiologist Dr. Johanna Contreras at Mt. Sinai Hospital System in New York City says “While you may not want to spend the holidays in a doctor’s office or hospital, getting checked out and receiving prompt treatment if there is a problem is one of the best gifts you can give yourself and your loved ones for all the celebrations to come.”
