(Providence, RI) – Two people are dead and a person of interest in custody after a mass shooting on the campus of Brown University. It happened Saturday afternoon inside a Physics and Engineering building as students were on campus for fall exams. Two victims were confirmed to be students at the Ivy League school.
We are tracking the active shooter incident at Brown University and coordinating with our partners there. At this time, there is no known nexus to NYC, but out of an abundance of caution, we are deploying extra assets to local universities.

Seven people are in stable condition, while another person was treated and released from the hospital the same day. Local police say the suspect under arrest is someone in their 30s, however authorities did not disclose any specifics on the person’s ties to the university. Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said the shelter-in-place order has been lifted following the arrest. All remaining classes and exams are cancelled according to the university.
