U.S. President Trump in Pennsylvania
(Washington, DC) — President Trump wants to get tough with visitors’ social media posts. He’s proposing a new rule that would require travelers from 42 visa-waiver countries to submit their full social media history from the past five years before being allowed to enter the US. This would fall under the electronic travel authorization scheme or ESTA.
In addition, along with their social media, applicants would have to provide personal and business contact details going back five years, and information about immediate family members. This proposed change is the same type of social media and background scrutiny that’s required for work visas, student visas and cultural-exchange visas.
Trump wants to strengthen security screening, especially as our country expects a surge in foreign visitors in the coming months due to major international events.
