(New York, NY) — What’s going on with Denny’s restaurants? The company announced it’s going to close roughly 150 of its US locations by the end of the year, as part of a major restructuring. Last year, it closed 88 restaurants.
The closures are largely driven by financial strain and changing consumer behavior. Many of the closed restaurants were older or in locations that became unprofitable or saw shifts in traffic patterns. In addition, the rise in food, labor and operating costs- along with post-pandemic shifts toward fast-food dining, delivery and take-out- has made it harder for “family dining” and late-night diners like Denny’s to stay viable.
As of now, Denny’s says it’s not throwing in the towel. The chain still operates over 13-hundred locations in the US. The company says the closures will free up capital for remodeling and opening new locations in better market.
