(New York, NY) – A grand jury for the second time has declined to charge New York Attorney General Letita James for alleged mortgage fraud. This came just under two weeks after the charges were tossed. A grand jury initially indicted James on one charge of bank fraud and another of making false statements to a financial institution. The case was tossed by a U.S. District Judge, along with the case against former FBI Director James Comey. Judge Cameron Currie concluded the lead prosecutor in the case – U.S. Attorney Lindsay Halligan – was illegally appointed.

Attorneys for James welcomed the decision by the grand jury to not indict on new charges. Lawyer Abe Lowell said the case “should never have existed in the first place”. The Justice Department could possibly take up the case for a third time.
