(New York, NY)  —  Thanks to the internet, an 88-year-old Army veteran, who had fallen on hard financial times, will be able to pay his bills.  Ed Bambas found himself working full-time as a cashier at a grocery store in Brighton, Michigan after losing his pension. He retired from General Motors in 1999, but when GM went bankrupt in 2012, his pension got stripped away. Around the same time, Ed’s wife fell seriously ill and medical bills started to pile up.  Bambas was forced to sell his home to make ends meet.  When is wife passed away several years ago, Bambas was left with just a few dollars and flip phone and he went to work at the grocery store.

A video of Ed telling his story to an Australian influencer went viral.  In addition, Ed told a local TV station about his grocery store job, “It wasn’t hard for me to do it because I knew I had to do it.”  He added, “I’m fortunate God gave me a good enough body to be strong enough to stand there for eight, eight and a half hours a day.”

After the social media video was posted, it inspired an online fundraising campaign. The campaign raised more than one-million-dollars which will help Ed finally retire with dignity.
