(New York, NY) — Your Christmas tree might be dangerous to your health. Dr. DeVon Preston with the Cleveland Clinic is warning people who have allergies and Christmas trees. He says a Christmas tree could make your allergies kick in. He recommends shaking and wiping down both live and artificial trees to reduce the allergens that hide in branches. He says there’s weed pollen, mold, and critters that hide in trees. And he says if you don’t shake a tree before you bring it into your home, there’s the potential you’re bringing all those allergens inside.
Dr. Preston adds the longer you keep a Christmas tree in your home, the longer the mold has to release more spores. He says once the season is over, you should get rid of your tree immediately! In addition, he says running an air purifier near your tree can help with allergens.
