New York City mayoral election
(New York, NY) — Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is blaming Curtis Sliwa for losing the New York City mayoral election. While co-hosting a radio show with David Paterson, another former New York governor, on 77 WABC, Cuomo said if Sliwa would have dropped out, “I would have won.”
Looking back at the race, Cuomo added Sliwa’s “7-points were an embarrassment and really diminished the Republican party.” He said he was convinced that he “would have gotten that seven and had been about a point from Zohran Mamdani and it would have changed the dynamics” of the race. Cuomo also called Sliwa’s campaign “a clown show.”
Cuomo admitted he did not run his best race in the primary and that Zohran was very good on social media and TikTok. “He’s an actor and captured a lot of excitement from young people,” Cuomo added.
Last month, Cuomo said a vote for Sliwa is a vote for Mamdani:
Cuomo and Paterson also talked about Zohran’s socialist agenda. Cuomo said, “You’re going to fail at it. There aren’t going to be free buses. There isn’t going to be freeze the rent. That’s not going to happen. And then voters are going to say, I’ve been lied to.”

Paterson jumped in and said the Democratic party will be part of the blame, as to why things didn’t work out. He said, “You have Mamdani promising all these things he can’t deliver.”
Paterson shared a story that reminded him of Mamdani. He reflected on his high school and a student named Stuart who was running for class president. Stuart decided he was tired of coming to school at 8 in the morning and declared , “When I’m in office, there will be no classes before 9:15 a.m.!” Paterson said students went crazy!! The entire student body loved it! Teachers realized you can’t suspend him, because all the students loved it. However, it actually became an issue. Paterson said the point is, “you can get up and say anything now and there will be a group of people who will cheer you on, even though in terms of process, it’s impossible.”
