(New York, NY) — New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch will remain in charge of the NYPD when Zohran Mamdani takes over as mayor next year.
Mamdani officially announced on November 19th that he’s keeping her as commissioner. Mamdani says he’s admired Tisch’s work on cracking down on corruption in the police department, driving down crime and standing up for New Yorkers in the face of authoritarianism.
Tisch responded saying she’s ready to serve with honor because the two share many of the same public safety goals.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams is applauding Mamdani’s decision to keep Police Commissioner Tisch. Adams says by keeping Tisch, Mamdani is recognizing the Adams administration public-safety efforts were right and that they will continue into the future. Adams says it’s the eighth straight quarter of declining crime across the city because of policies put in place a few years ago.
