(East Rutherford, NJ) – There’s a lot on the plate for Mike Kafka as he takes the reins in the Meadowlands. The New York Giants interim head coach just made his first key decision — benching Russell Wilson in favor of fellow veteran Jameis Winston. So, if rookie Jaxson Dart doesn’t clear concussion protocol by Sunday, Winston will be under center against the Green Bay Packers.

It could mean that Wilson has played his final moments in a Giants uniform, thought it’s likely he will remain in uniform as the team’s emergency third QB — or the backup, should Dart be inactive.

It marks the first significant change for the Kafka Era, with Brian Daboll having been fired. Winston is considered more erratic than Wilson, but potentially has more upside, with the Giants offense having largely sputtered with Wilson at QB. Winston takes a lot of deep shots, throws a lot of interceptions, and may help a guy like speedster Jalin Hyatt recover his effectiveness.
