(Montclair, NJ) – You can’t find a house for sale in Montclair, New Jersey for less than one million dollars. The town’s high school is routinely ranked among the top public schools in the state. Having just been elected as governor, Mikie Sherrill and her banker husband are among the town’s notable residents. Late night TV star Stephen Colbert has lived there for years. Yankees legend Yogi Berra called Montclair home for decades up until his death.
Now, the town has been rocked by a completely different type of notoriety, as two teenagers have been arrested in connection to a terrorist plot in Detroit. One of the men arrested is 19-year-old Milo Sedarat — son of Iranian-American poet Roger Sedarat. The younger Sedarat was arrested at his father’s home in Montclair on Tuesday, according to the New York Post. The elder Sedarat is a college professor at New York City’s Queens College.
Also arrested in connection to a terrorist plot this week was Tomas Kaan-Guzel, also 19, who was arrested at Newark Liberty International Airport. He was allegedly planning to fly to Syria in order to be trained as a jihadi warrior.
Prosecutors say the terrorist plot in Detroit was to be inspired by the 2015 ISIS attack in Paris. Others have been arrested and guns have allegedly been seized from a storage unit in Michigan.
The New York Post spoke to a neighbor who said the streets near his house in Montclair were closed off for hours. Federal agents carrying assault rifles and wearing camo tactical gear drew the attention of people living nearby. Some neighbors left flowers and notes of condolences at the Sedarat family home. And many expressed shock at the report.
