(New York, NY) – Democrats are kicking butt here on Election Day 2025. New York City now had a Democratic Socialist as mayor — Zohran Mamdani — who is currently a State Assemblyman from Queens. Mamdani won the nomination on the Democratic side this past summer, defeating Andrew Cuomo in a contest that surprised many pundits.
In the two major governor’s races — New Jersey and Virginia — Democrats took it home. Virginia’s Abigail Spanberger defeated Republican Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears. And in New Jersey, Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill defeated Republican Jack Ciattarelli — who had come up short in a close race against incumbent Phil Murphy back in 2021.
Virginia’s Attorney General race also went to a Democrat — Jay Jones — who faced controversy and criticism during the race, for wishing death upon his opponent. Many had called for him to drop out, but he didn’t, and won.
