(New York, NY) – Endorsements are coming in left and right as the New York City mayoral election gets underway. With early voting getting started Saturday, October 25, house minority leader Hakeem Jeffries took time Friday to announce his endorsement — for Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani.

Jeffries, a Democrat, may have had hesitations when it comes to endorsing Mamdani, who is considered a far-left candidate. Still, with the entire party headed in that direction, Jeffries likely saw the writing on the wall. This follows an endorsement for Mamdani from New York Governor Kathy Hochul.

Jeffries took a somewhat similar track to Hochul, attempting to sort of hold his nose while endorsing Mamdani. He acknowledged they have “areas of principled disagreement,” but Jeffries added Mamdani has “explicitly committed to being a mayor for all New Yorkers.” The New York Congressman had faced questions for months about whether or not he would endorse Mamdani.

A score of polls have said Mamdani leads former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican-Independent candidate Curtis Sliwa.
