A view of a building where Jeffrey Epstein used to live, in Manhattan on the Upper East Side in New York City
(New York, NY) — The mansion once owned by pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein on Manhattan’s Upper East Side has undergone sweeping renovations. The property at 9 East 71st Street was sold for about 51-million-dollars in 2021 to former Goldman Sachs executive Michael Daffey. The sale happened two years after Epstein was found hanged in a federal jail cell in Manhattan. He was behind bars awaiting trial for sex-trafficking women and girls.
A small, but significant change to the mansion, is the removal of Epstein’s initials “JE” on the outside of the residence’s door. It appears the new owner tried to bring in more light into the home by knocking down many walls “to open up the maze of rooms where Epstein preyed on countless women and entertained heads of state, journalists, academics, and captains of industry for more than 20 years.” The NY Post adds gaudy molding and old walls were stripped away and replaced with new trimmings and tiling.

But can you ever erase the memories and actions that occurred in the mansion? Henry Francois, who lives nearby, said “It’s a dark, dark, weird place” and added, he’d never live inside. I walked by the other day and saw construction workers pushing a dolly filled with molding and I didn’t even want to look inside! It felt too creepy.

The news of the renovations comes on the release of the late Virginia Giuffre’s memoir, “Nobody’s Girl.” Giuffre claimed she was sex-trafficked by Epstein and was repeatedly subjected to being chained and beaten in his home in a room she called The Dungeon. She also claimed the home had gloomy black marble and described the place as a House of Horrors.
Giuffre died by suicide in April.
