(Washington, DC) — President Trump has just commuted the prison sentence of George Santos. The disgraced former Republican congressman from New York pleaded guilty to identity theft and wire fraud in August 2024.

The New York Republican was sentenced in April to seven years in prison after admitting to deceiving donors and stealing the identities of 11 people — including his own family — to make donations to his campaign. Santos, 37, surrendered on July 25, 2025.

In a Truth Social Post, Trump implied the sentence was too harsh, adding that Santos will be released immediately.  “George has been in solitary confinement for long stretches of time and, by all accounts, has been horribly mistreated. Therefore, I just signed a Commutation, releasing George Santos from prison, IMMEDIATELY. Good luck George, have a great life,†Trump added.
