(New York, NY) – The first of two debates between the candidates for New York City Mayor was held October 16th. Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani, Independent candidate Andrew Cuomo and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa faced off over Mamdani’s lack of experience, in which Cuomo mocked Mamdani saying he worked as an intern for his own mother. Mamdani responded that his integrity makes up for his lack of experience.
Independent Andrew Cuomo’s past alleged indiscretions were brought up, and the former New York Governor responded saying the investigation turned up empty.
Republican Curtis Sliwa responded when each candidate was asked what their first question to President Trump would be. He said Cuomo and Mamdani “want to take on Donald Trump, but you can’t talk tough when it’s going to cost people desperately needed federal funds.” Sliwa also declared himself the Mayor of Mass Transit.
The next debate is scheduled for October 22nd. Election Day is Nov. 4, with Early Voting starting on Oct. 25
