(New York, NY) — Statues of Christopher Columbus are getting a new life. Five years ago, Columbus was public enemy number one. More than 30 Columbus monuments were toppled or taken down. At times, there was even a police escort at the Columbus statue in Central Park. Now, according to the New York Times, some statues are being restored and finding new, less public homes.
Some of the statues are have found new homes at Italian American social clubs, along with outside the Skylands Stadium which is just outside Sparta, in Augusta New Jersey. Many of the statues were revived with the help of Italian American groups.
