(England) – Two people were killed, and three were left injured — following a stabbing attack outside of a synagogue in Manchester, England. It also took place on Yom Kippur — the highest of Holy Days for the Jewish faith.
Reports say the suspect drove a vehicle towards a crowd prior to launching his attack. The suspect then tried to get into the synagogue but failed — and was shot dead by responding officers.
In response, King Charles put out a statement. He noted how he and Queen Camilla “deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the horrific attack in Manchester, especially on such a significant day for the Jewish community.” British Prime Minister Keir Starmer was in Copenhagen for meetings but returned early to the UK.
Police are referring to the as an act of terrorism, given it happened as members of the Jewish faith marked the Yom Kippur holiday. Two other arrests have been made but it’s not clear what the connection is. There have also been reports that authorities warned people on the scene that the attacker had an explosive of some kind.
