(Washington, DC) — President Trump says he has a new proposal for peace in the Middle East that will also end the bloody war in Gaza. It includes the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas since October 7th 2023, and for Israel to withdraw from Gaza. Hamas has not yet agreed to any plan, but the President says he heard Hamas might be open to it. President Trump says he wants an international body to oversee the peace effort and to help create a new government in Gaza. As part of the plan, Trump wants to implement an economic plan to rebuild Gaza too

World leaders are awaiting Hamas’ response to the peace plan. If Hamas were to reject the deal, Trump says he would let Israel “go and do what they has to do.” Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Indonesia and Pakistan have issued a joint statement welcoming the 20-point plan, calling Trump’s efforts “sincere.”

Meanwhile, less than a quarter of Palestinian and Israelis believe lasting peace will be achieved in the region. A Gallup survey finds just 21-percent of Israeli adults believe peace with Palestinians will be reached while 63-percent said it will never come.
