(Lawrenceville, NJ) – The first debate will be held this weekend between the top two candidates in New Jersey’s race for governor. Democrat Mikie Sherrill and Republican Jack Ciattarelli will take part in a town hall style meeting — on the campus of Rider University — Sunday night. The event will be live streamed on a number of platforms, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM that night.
We are less than two months away from election day, and the race is heating up. Earlier this month both Sherrill and Ciattarelli released their first televised campaign ads. Sherrill highlighted what she describes as leadership skills, and vowed to lower the costs New Jersey family’s face — including utility prices. Ciattarelli — who has routinely railed against high taxes and New Jersey’s elevated cost of living — also focused on affordability in his initial TV ads.
Meanwhile, a new poll shows Sherrill’s lead has shrunk a bit. In early July, a poll from Rutgers Eagleton put the Democrat up by 20 points. But as of this month that lead in the same survey had shrunk to nine points. Around 17% of respondents that said they were undecided.
