(New York, NY) – Over the past weekend, information, an rumor, and innuendo was circulating online. Who was Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old alleged killer who cut short the brilliant life of Charlie Kirk? What were his motivations? Was he a Democrat, or a Republican?
Even before Robinson had turned himself into authorities, some had speculated as to why Kirk was been attacked. Some rumors mentioned well-heeled investors or sponsors, who allegedly had pressured Kirk to monitor his views. Given the modern political landscape, the claim followed that someone connected to Israel is in fact to blame. Still, others suggested Robinson must be part of the “Free Palestine” movement, and would thus be motivated to stop the “Zionist,” Kirk.
Regardless of the minutiae, and paying due deference to how important all of it is as part of the criminal investigation, a man is dead — and nothing changes that. Despite the stirring words from Erika Kirk, Charlie’s widow, we are lesser off as a planet and society minus his contribution. It’s fair to say and even proper to note how enduring his legacy will be, while feeling sad and angry at his loss.
Now, those emotions are certain to be enflamed once more — as Fox News is reporting that Robinson lived with a transwoman, who is apparently in the process of “transitioning.” There are also reports that Robinson was dating or somehow romantically involved with that individual. As of now, there are no indications that Robinson’s roommate faces criminal charges — and all indications are that person is cooperating with law enforcement.
And then on Sunday, Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed that Robinson had been living with a transgender individual — born a male, transitioning to female. Governor Cox also said that Robinson was “indoctrinated with leftist ideology,” during an interview with CNN.
Yet in the wake of the school church shooting in Minneapolis, and the Christian school shooting in Nashville, many are wondering what crossover exists — if any — between being transgender and acting out in violent ways.
Robinson is due before a judge in Utah on Tuesday. The expectation is his murder trial will be held initially at the state level — with the potential for federal charges as well. Both Utah and the Federal Government could pursue the death penalty. Prosecutors plan to talk with Kirk’s family first in order to understand their preferred route.
On Sunday, September 21, Kirk’s funeral services will held in Phoenix, Arizona — at State Farm Stadium — home of the NFL’s Cardinals. Turning Point USA announced “Building A Legacy: Remembering Charlie Kirk” will be open to the public.
