(Washington, DC) — It was a tense three-hours on Capitol hill this past Thursday as Robert Kennedy Jr. fielded questions over his recent decisions as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services. Some of those decisions included the abrupt firing of CDC Director Susan Monarez and the dismissal of all 17 members of the advisory committee on immunization practices. He insisted these moves were “absolutely necessary” to restore the CDC’s credibility and shift its focus toward chronic disease rather than pandemic-era measures like school closures and mask mandates.

Kennedy repeatedly clashed with senators, accusing them of spreading misinformation. Senators from both parties questioned whether his actions were limiting access to COVID-19 vaccines. Kennedy countered that anyone who wants a vaccine can still get one via prescription, depending on state laws.

Meantime, Florida’s Surgeon General, Dr. Joseph Ladapo, backed by Governor Ron DeSantis, announced that the state plans to eliminate all vaccine mandates, including those required for schoolchildren to attend public school. The move marks Florida as potentially the first U.S. state to fully repeal childhood vaccine mandates—a significant departure from decades of public health policy.
In addition, President Trump is pressing pharmaceutical companies to “justify the success” of their COVD-19 treatments. In a post on Truth Social on September 1st, he expressed concern over conflicting claims about how effective these drugs were. He said “I want the answer, and I want it NOW,” suggesting lack of transparency is contributing to internal chaos.
