(New York, NY) — Six people were shot at the end of the West Indian American Day Parade route in Brooklyn last night, ending what had been a very peaceful day. Two took bullets near Eastern Parkway and Utica Avenue in Crown Heights around 5:35pm. About 40-minutes later, a man was slashed at Eastern Parkway and Nostrand Avenue. And then around 7PM a man was shot in the shoulder and another in his chest. Police have not made any arrests and have not released a motive for the violence.
Nearly a million marchers and spectators were on hand for the 58th annual event. Revelers enjoyed Caribbean-themed food and music while celebrating. The march has been plagued by violence for years.
