(New York, NY) – President Donald Trump is floating the idea of deploying federal agents to several blue cities after his crackdown on crime in Washington D.C. Trump says National Guard troops could be sent to places like Chicago and Baltimore, prompting outrage from Democratic politicians. More locally, the Bronx is in the headlines for a second consecutive weekend over gun violence.
Crime in Chicago Could Bring Federal Troops
President Trump is not happy with crime numbers coming out of the Windy City and wants to deploy National Guard troops similar to his effort in the Capitol. Democratic Mayor of Chicago, Brandon Johnson, signed an executive order on Saturday urging local police to not cooperate with federal agents. He says it’s part of the “Protecting Chicago” initiative that also reinforces several local policies like a mandate requiring police to wear identification and body cameras.


More Discoveries in the Annunciation School Shooting
Authorities are still combing over evidence related to the Annunciation Catholic school shooting. Police have seized several personal items belonging to the shooter. Two children were killed, Fletcher Merkel, 8, and Harper Moyski, 10. Nearly 20 others were injured, the 23 year-old perpetrator killed themselves during the incident. Cops have searched the shooter’s father’s home. Flags are flying at half staff through sunset today following an order from President Trump.
Violent Start to the Holiday Weekend in the Bronx
It was a violent start to the long holiday weekend in the Bronx with a shooting right outside the church. It happened on Marion Avenue near Fordham University. Two people were shot, with a third victim being grazed in the back of the head. The injured were taken to the hospital in stable condition. No arrests have been made. This follows a deadly shooting in the borough last week that triggered Mayor Eric Adams to increase police presence by 1,000 officers and call for diplomatic peace talks at Gracie Mansion with alleged gang members.


Penn Station is Getting a Makeover
Long Islanders and New Jersey commuters are reacting to plans that would overhaul Penn Station. The man known as “Train Daddy”, Andy Byford, is serving as a special advisor overseeing the whole project. There is no exact budget or timeline as the Trump Administration is fielding offers from several contractors from October to May. The goal of the project is to boost train capacity and modernize the transit hub.
