(New York, NY) — New York Penn Station will get a multi-billion-dollar makeover starting by the end of 2027. Trump Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and New York’s former president of the Transit Authority, Andy Byford say the station will get a complete transformation that’s more than about bricks and mortar.
Byford said it will be operationally sound, safe, clean, easy to navigate and “ooze excellence.” A competition is being launched to hire a master builder by next May. As for whether Madison Square Garden, which sits atop Penn Station, will be moved, Byford says that will be decided later.
Duffy was asked whether Penn Station’s name would be changed to Trump Station and said, “I think that has a nice ring to it…but that’s a conversation that could happen at some other point.” NY Penn Station is considered the number one train station in the nation’s network with 12-million riders last year.
