(Elizabeth, NJ) — One person is dead, and several others are injured after police say a woman driver crashed through the front of a Planet Fitness in Union County.
It happened just before 12:30 Tuesday (Aug. 26th) afternoon at the gym located along Newark Avenue in Elizabeth. The Jeep crashed through the front windows and ended up close to 15 feet inside the gym.
Police say a 72-year-old man near the front window was killed, and a 59-year-old man on a treadmill suffered cuts and abrasions after the driver, a 69-year-old woman, crashed into a bank of windows just to the left of the entrance. She suffered injuries consistent with an airbag deploying.
The buildings department in Elizabeth determined there is damage to the building and it will be closed until further notice.
