(Washington, DC)  — President Trump has signed an executive order that looks to put an end to cashless bail across the country. One of the orders was specific to Washington, D.C.  The order also threatens to withhold federal funding if cities do not end the policy.  It’s the latest move in the president’s federal crackdown on crime.  He reiterated that crime went up when cashless bail began in D.C.

“We’re ending it,” Mr. Trump said of cashless bail before he signed the executive order in the Oval Office. “But we’re starting by ending it in D.C., and that we have the right to do through federalization.”  Supporters of cashless bail say it harms lower income offenders who don’t have the means to pay bail.  President Trump says cashless bail has led to an increase in crime.  The move comes as the National Guard was brought in to help with cracking down on crime in D.C.
