Details on a Deadly Tour Bus Crash and Trump Claims Success in DC

(New York, NY) – A deadly tour bus crash left several people dead on the New York State Thruway. We are learning more about the lead-up to the crash and the victims impacted. Also happening, a federal takeover in Washington DC is going great according to the White House. Finally, Texas is pushing forward with new district lines to help the GOP build on their majority in The House. These are some of the biggest stories to know heading into the weekend

Five Dead Following Tour Bus Crash 

Officials say five people, including one child, have been declared dead after a tour bus crash in western New York. It happened on the New York State Thruway in the town of Pembroke. The bus was traveling from Niagara Falls to New York City. Over 50 people were involved in the impact, several riders were launched from the vehicle while others were trapped inside or underneath. Police say the driver is cooperating with authorities.

According to Major Andre Ray, with the New York State Police Troop T, on preliminary investigation, it appeared the driver became distracted, lost control and over corrected which caused the crash. No other vehicle was involved in the crash. The bus was towed to the NYSP barracks for further investigation.

All That & A Bag of Chips 

On Wednesday, a former aide with the Adams administration, Winnie Greco, gave a reporter cash in a crumpled chip bag. The reporter, Katie Honan with The City, posted photos of a red envelope in a chip bag she received following a Harlem fundraising event for the Adams campaign. Greco claims the whole thing was a cultural misunderstanding, and it’s part of her custom to give cash to friends and family. Mayor Adams says Greco is suspended from all volunteer work with the campaign. 

Ukraine Status Update 

President Donald Trump says he will know the fate of peace negotiations with Russia and Ukraine “very soon”. It has been over a week since Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. The summit was shortly followed by a meeting with Zelensky at the White House on Monday. Zelensky claims Putin is holding up talks between the two leaders and says he would like to meet with Putin as he sees that as the only pathway to possible resolution. Russia’s foreign ministry office meanwhile says the agenda for such a meeting is not ready.

DC Takeover Success to Trump 

National Guard troops have been patrolling the streets of the nation’s capital following an executive order cracking down on crime and vagrancy. According to the White House, the rollout is a success so far. Vice President JD Vance says crime rates are already down in the week and a half of federal agents taking over duties for the Metropolitan Police Department. 

Texas Approves New Maps 

The GOP majority in both the Texas State House and Senate have passed new congressional maps. Texas Republicans took up the effort in a special legislative session after President Trump urged the GOP to find ways to boost their majority in Congress. Texas Democrats fled the state in protest, holding up proceedings for over a week. However, Democrats returned and the map passed in the state house 88-52 and 18-11 in the state senate. California is unveiling plans of their own to redraw state lines to help Democrats in response.
