(New York, NY) — A close adviser and former Mayor Eric Adams appointee gave cash to a journalist tucked into a potato chip bag.
Winnie Greco went to an campaign event Adams was at in Harlem on August 20th, then gave more than 100-dollars in cash in an envelope stuffed inside of a Herr’s Sour Cream and Onion potato chip snack bag to a reporter from online outlet The City. The reporter, Katie Honan reported it, and The City contacted law enforcement. Greco has been suspended from her volunteer role with Adams’ languishing re-election campaign, but even she confirms what happened.
Greco, the mayor’s former director of Asian affairs, was raided by the FBI as they investigated Adams’ 2021 campaign. Greco’s lawyer told the New York Times it’s common in Chinese culture to give cash to reporters “in a gesture of friendship and gratitude.”
