(New York, NY) – Leftist Democrats — and are there really any other kinds these days? — are once again up in arms. With federal authorities actually enforcing immigration law under the Trump Administration, Democrats such as Governor Kathy Hochul are stomping their feet and gnashing their teeth.
For Hochul, migrants are a means to an end. The growth of government services that provide meals, and housing, and other benefits — that’s the lifeblood of career politicians. Plus, the truth is women like Hochul hope and count on the next generation of migrants — their kids — voting for Democrats. Furthermore, there’s a ton of speculation (and some evidence, see: DOGE) that Democrats don’t much care whether those people actually vote — so long as their social security numbers can be made into voter registrations.
Why would that be of use? One can only speculate.
The latest source of crocodile tears comes from Hochul, via an ICE operation in Queens. News reports designed to tug at the heart strings tell you a six-year-old girl and her mom were detained, then deported to their home nation of Ecuador. ICE agents arrested them during a “routine immigration check in” at a federal building.
Eyewitness News says the child’s arrest is the first such detention of someone under 18 during the Trump immigration crackdown. They also report the girl’s 19-year-old brother remains in ICE custody — at Delaney Hall Detention Facility — in Newark.

As for the young girl’s deportation — Governor Hochul called it “cruel” and said the child should be preparing for school. She referred to her being deported as “inhuman.” A statement from New York City Public Schools Chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos reads: “No child or family should be uprooted from their community or feel forced to hide in the shadows. This is a child that should be preparing to go back to school this fall, where they are cared for, valued, and – most importantly – safe.”
Yet one can’t help but counter the breathless and performative statements with simple questions. Inhuman? Don’t humans live in Ecuador? Are Americans who believe in enforcing the concept of citizenship “inhuman?” And if so, how? Is it “cruel” to expect parents to understand having a six-year-old child is not a gold card that allows for the flouting of immigration laws?
Children are members of the community so far as their parents are. Innocence of babes is violated by criminal actions of adults. Mom, and maybe dad, and any other members of this child’s family failed her. But for Governor Hochul and other leftists, it’s just a missed opportunity — for more government spending and future voter rolls. The opportunity they won’t miss is the chance to try and make sensible individuals look bad for supporting the enforcement of laws.
