(New York, NY) – President Donald Trump is set to meet with Ukrainian President Zelensky following a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin. On the west coast, Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom is unveiling new maps for California in response to GOP-led redistricting in Texas. Also happening locally, a mass shooting leaves three dead in Brooklyn. These are the stories you need to know heading into the new week:

Brooklyn Mass Shooting

Shots rang out around 3:30 am in the Crown Heights neighborhood, at a restaurant lounge called Taste of the City. Three people were pronounced dead while 8 others were wounded. Police commissioner Jessica Tisch says officers responded within minutes to 911 calls, however no arrests were made. Cops believe there were multiple shooters and are combing through surveillance footage to track down the suspects.

Zelensky Meeting with Trump

Ukrainian President Zelensky is meeting with President Trump tomorrow, in a continuation of talks Trump held with Russian president Vladimir Putin. Following the Friday summit in Alaska, Trump held a phone call with Zelensky and NATO leaders. In that call, Trump said that Putin hinted he was opposed to a ceasefire resolution, preferring a long lasting “comprehensive agreement” to bring an end to the nearly 4-year old war.

California Reveals New Map

Governor Gavin Newsom has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration, and now he claims the president “poked the bear”. After state republicans in Texas attempted to redraw congressional lines (Democrats fled the state preventing an actual vote on the GOP proposal) the blue state lawmakers responded with their own re-drawn lines. Current Republican members of Congress in California lambasted the move and said it goes against an independent commission that voters have said they want more than partisan committees.

Gaza Visas Stopped

The State Department announced over the weekend they will no longer approve visitor visas from people from Gaza. The government announced a “full and thorough” review of the visa process, focusing on those looking for temporary medical visas. Previously, the US allowed a small number of Palestinians to travel to the US for medical care. This change comes after conservative influencer and Trump ally, Laura Loomer, went after the visa program on social media.
