(Trenton, NJ) — Lyme disease cases have been rising in New Jersey and this time of year is peak tick season. New Jersey Department of Health data shows there’s been more than four-thousand cases of the tick borne disease this year in the Garden State. State data shows there are more tick-related emergency room visits as well. The largest numbers of Lyme disease cases have been reported in Hunterdon, Morris, Sussex, Monmouth and Ocean counties.
Officials are urging New Yorkers and New Jerseyans to take precautions against ticks and mosquitoes while enjoying the outdoors. New York Governor Kathy Hochul says warming temperatures and changing climate conditions are contributing to a steady rise in the tick population and increased risk of Lyme Disease.
Just last week, pop star Justin Timberlake opened up with fans about his battle with Lyme disease. The 44-year-old singer revealed the diagnosis in an Instagram post. He shared that he was “shocked” when he first got the diagnosis and added that “living with this can be relentlessly debilitating, both mentally and physically.” Timberlake also revealed that he even considered putting an end to touring but ultimately decided to keep going.
