(New York, NY) – Attorney General Letitia James is the subject of a new grand jury investigation tied to the civil fraud case she brought against President Donald Trump. Texas Democrats are still on the lam as they protest efforts to redraw the state map. There’s also reports being refuted by former Governor Andrew Cuomo tying his campaign to the White House. Here are the biggest stories we are keeping an eye on in the WABC newsroom:
Tish James Bashes Grand Jury Probe
New York’s top prosecutor is pushing back against a new federal probe. James is being investigated for a potential deprivation of rights when she sued President Trump in a civil fraud case. A subpoena has been issued to the Attorney General of the Empire State. In response, James’ lawyer put out a statement condemning what they call the “weaponization of the Justice Department”.
Still No Quorum in Texas
Ahead of the weekend, the Texas State House still did not have the numbers needed to convene an official assembly. It’s called “quorum” and that’s the centerpiece of Texas Democrats strategy in pushing back against redistricting efforts led by Republicans. Attorney General Ken Paxton is calling on the expulsion of Democrats who left the state. State lawmakers are also unable to now receive their checks electronically, but have to pick it up in person.


Israel Taking Over Gaza City
The Israeli military is taking over Gaza City, in what’s being considered an expansion and escalation in the years long conflict. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said his ultimate goal is to take over the entirety of the Gaza Strip. Israeli officials say forces are focused on central Gaza where hostages held by Hamas are expected to be located. The move has sparked criticism from the UN. Germany has stopped military shipments to Israel in response.
Latest in Mayor’s Race
Former governor and Independent candidate for city mayor, Andrew Cuomo, is denying a New York Times report that he’s been in talks with President Trump about the race. Cuomo told reporters he doesn’t even remember the last time he spoke with Trump. Queens assemblyman and Democratic candidate, Zohran Mamdani, used the headline to attack Cuomo, who’s trailing Mamdani in the latest polls. Founder of the Guardian Angels and Republican candidate, Curtis Sliwa, urged President Trump to remain neutral in the race.


Progress on the Epstein Files
The Department of Justice is pulling a rare move in order to restore trust among the public. Attorney General Pam Bondi is leading the effort following criticism from both sides of the aisle over a memo claiming the late sex -trafficker did not have a “client list” as previously stated. Grand jury evidence is usually kept confidential, however officials will be releasing names previously undisclosed.
