It’s Still His Race To Lose

(New York, NY) — A well rested Zohran Mamdani rejoined the race for Mayor this week after a long holiday in his native Uganda, as his competitors struggle with how to stop him from winning in November.

The “New York Times” reported this week that President Trump spoke with Independent mayoral candidate, and former Governor Andrew Cuomo about the race and whether he should get involved. Polls have shown Cuomo has the best shot of beating Mamdani. The Cuomo campaign was quick to throw cold water on the Times story, but the paper says the President and Cuomo talked political strategy.

While many Democrats nationwide are keeping their distance from Mamdani, others are beginning to embrace him. Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren said this week that Mamdani is likely the new face of the Democratic party. She says her fellow Democrats should follow his lead if they want to start winning again, and talk to voters about how to make life more affordable for them. The progressive senator from Massachusetts did a campaign event with Mamdani in New York City on Monday.

Mamdani, has so far failed to get endorsements from many big name New York Democrats. Governor Kathy Hochul, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand have all held off giving him their seal of approval. Bronx Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the only well known New York politician to rally around Mamdani.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem went after Zohran Mamdani this week after he said ICE agents were abducting immigrants and that he would stand in their way if he becomes Mayor. She told FOX News that his statements ignored ICE’s role in grabbing dangerous criminals off the streets.

Kristi Noem, Secretary of Homeland Security,

“I can’t even imagine how the people of New York City feel listening to that, knowing that if he were elected as mayor, that they would have to continue to live with the dangerous criminals that are on their streets terrorizing that city right now,” she said Wednesday on “Fox & Friends.”

The New York City Campaign Finance Board one again denied Mayor Eric Adams millions of dollars in matching funds this week, and let his campaign know that he may not get any matching campaign cash anytime soon. The NYCFB told the Adams campaign that they were denied the funds because they have reason to believe that they violated campaign laws and they failed to submit required paperwork.

The news from the New York City Campaign Finance Board was much better for the Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani and the Republican nominee, Curtis Sliwa.  The NYCFB awarded the Mamdani for Mayor campaign $1.7 million in public matching funds. Sliwa will receive $1.9 million. Independent candidate Jim Walden will get $200,000. Independent candidate Andrew Cuomo was not awarded any matching funds. His campaign says the former governor did not apply for them.

For those looking to wager on the race, the betting pools still have Zohran Mamdani winning easily in the Fall. They have the 33-year-old with an 81.8% chance of winning. Andrew Cuomo is in second place with a  7.8% chance of winning. Mayor Eric Adams comes in third with a 6.8% chance of winning. Curtis Sliwa is in fourth place with a 2.2% chance of winning the election.
