(New York, NY) — Adam Sandler’s long-awaited sequel, “Happy Gilmore 2,” has debuted with record-breaking viewership numbers on Netflix. The film, which premiered on July 25th, accumulated 46.7 million views in its first three days, according to Netflix’s top 10 list. This marks the biggest U.S. opening weekend of all time for a Netflix film, as well as the biggest opening for any Netflix film starring Adam Sandler. The film’s success also boosted the original 1996 “Happy Gilmore,” which secured the number 3 spot on the global top 10 list with 11.4 million views.
In “Happy Gilmore 2,” Sandler reprises his role as a former hockey player with anger management issues who becomes a golf sensation. The sequel’s plot centers on Gilmore’s return to golf to fund his daughter’s ballet dreams and his efforts to save traditional golf from a new, extreme version of the sport. Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald return alongside a bunch of celebrities, including Travis Kelce, Bad Bunny, and Eminem. The film also features cameo appearances from several professional golfers and from his family members, including his daughters and Mother.

Reviews for “Happy Gilmore 2” have been mixed, but fans don’t seem to mind. Critics complained it relied too much on nostalgia and all the cameos, but it appears that’s what fans wanted.
The New York Mets even got in on the fun.
Meantime, Sandler is going out on tour this fall with “Adam Sandler: You’re My Best Friend Tour” which starts in September with stops in 37 arenas.
