(New York, NY) – The body of NYPD officer Didarul Islam, killed in Monday’s (July 28, 2025) mass shooting in Midtown has been moved to a mosque in the Bronx.  Scores of officers lined up along the route for the dignified transfer, to pay their respects.  Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch says he’s a hero.

The officer was a 36-year-old father of two and expecting a third child. Tisch said Islam made the ultimate sacrifice and was shot in cold blood.  The Bangladeshi native served with the NYPD for almost four years.  Purple bunting is now hanging at the 47th precinct, where he was assigned.

Islam, along with 43-year old Wesley LePatner, a Blackstone employee, wife and mom,  Security officer Aland Etienne, and the fourth victim was 27 year old Rudin Management employee Julia Hyman were shot when 27-year old Shane Tamura brought a rifle into 345 Park Avenue and started firing.

A note found near Tamura’s body asks that his brain be examined for CTE, a brain disorder that can affect football players. Investigators think he may have been targeting the NFL, which has offices in that building. He reportedly got onto the wrong elevator which took him to the wrong floor. Tamura committed suicide on the 33rd floor.
