(New York, NY) — First there was Pizza Rat and now a stray kitten is going viral after walking onto a New York City subway car. A small calico kitten was caught on camera hopping onto the train on July 24th and along the way captured hearts across the internet. The video garnered three-million views on TikTok in just 24-hours. The kitten was passed around on the number 2 subway car, until one female commuter, Betsaida Mercado, decided to take her home.
Mercado told The Today Show, “I just grabbed her.“ She added, “My first thought was making sure she was OK. My second thought was, ‘I’m going to be a cat mom.'” Mercado said she took the 7-week-old kitten to the vet and had it checked out. In addition, the kitten was given the name “Emmy” which is short for MTA, since she was found on the subway.
