(New York, NY) — Dash cams are being installed in hundreds of rideshare vehicles in New York City in an effort to crack down on insurance fraud. Video has captured what appear to be staged crashes, like a cyclist plowing into a rideshare car and a U-Haul backing into another vehicle.
Fernando Mateo with the New York Federation of Taxi Drivers says drivers are often accused of doing things they haven’t done and hopes the pilot program will make a difference. Fraudulent accident claims cost insurance companies millions and lead to drivers losing their jobs.
The goal is to have all 100-thousand rideshare cars in New York outfitted with the cameras.
