(Washington, DC) — A top official with the Department of Justice is working to arrange a meeting with Ghislaine Maxwell, the longtime associate of Jeffrey Epstein. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, says the unnamed official has communicated with Maxwell’s counsel “to determine whether she would be willing to speak with prosecutors from the Department.” Blanche said he expects to meet with Maxwell “in the coming days,” and noted the outreach was at the direction of Attorney General Pam Bondi. Maxwell is serving a 20-year prison sentence after being convicted on sex trafficking charges in 2021.

Meanwhile, House Speaker Mike Johnson says there won’t be a vote on releasing files related to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein before lawmakers go on break in August. Johnson made the announcement Monday as some GOP lawmakers are calling foul over the Trump administration’s handling of the issue. The outcry started when Attorney General Pam Bondi said there was no so-called “client list” of Epstein’s alleged sex trafficking involving the rich and well-connected, and no new info would be released. Since then, President Trump has called for releasing relevant grand jury transcripts in the case.
