(Wayne, NJ) — There were a number of drownings in New Jersey over the weekend. On Friday night in Wayne, a five year old boy was pronounced dead after being pulled from a residential pool. Authorities are investigating why the boy was not accompanied by an adult. Also in Wayne, a Queens man died after drowning at a pool at a house party on Saturday. In Clifton, a 19-year-old is in the hospital after getting pulled out of a pool at a party Sunday afternoon.

New York State Police are releasing more details about a drowning that took place at a swimming hole in in the Hudson Valley last week.  Troopers were called to Rock Dome swimming hole in Wawarsing around 6:30 p.m. on July 16th. A 14-year-old was swimming with friends when he became submerged and did not resurface. Friends attempted to rescue him but were unsuccessful. They immediately contacted 911 and remained on the line until emergency responders arrived.

On Long Island, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman has been warning swimmers to be aware when swimming at area beaches. He is telling beach goers to always swim with a buddy and only where there’s a lifeguard on duty.  Blakeman says rip tides are the greatest threat, causing 71 drownings across the nation last year.
