(New York, NY) — CBS is canceling “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” The network says his final show will be in May.
Colbert, who’s hosted the show since 2015, said he just learned the news Wednesday (July 16, 2025) night. The network says it’s purely a financial decision and “not related to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.” CBS says it considers Colbert irreplaceable and will retire “The Late Show” franchise. Just this week, “The Late Show” was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for outstanding talk show for the sixth time. It also won a Peabody Award in 2021.
The show debuted in 1993 with David Letterman as the host. Colbert took over “The Late Show” from Letterman in 2015, after becoming a big name in comedy and news satire working with Jon Stewart on “The Daily Show.”
