
(Jackson, NJ) — One person is dead, six others injured after a bolt of lightning hit them on an archery range in Jackson, New Jersey Wednesday night. Police say they started getting 911 calls around 7 p.m. from the Black Knight Bowbenders archery range on Perrineville Road. One woman told them she saw 6 people, including children on the ground. She described the lightning strike coming out of nowhere. Cub Scout Pack 204 was at the archery site for a lesson from some volunteer instructors. The children were as young as 7-years-old.
One of the volunteer teachers, a 61-year-old died from the lightning hit. Six others, who were taken away from the scene by ambulance were described as alert.
Those at the scene described a deafening sound as the bolt hit. They say it came out of nowhere. It was not raining and no one had heard thunder.
