(Atlanta, GA) — Police in Atlanta, Georgia are trying to figure out what started a stampede after a Beyonce concert on Monday night, that injured a number of concert goers. Those who were hurt were trying to get on an escalator following the show at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. One of the injured says he was trying to make it to the subway station when he heard someone screaming. That set off a chaotic scene with concert goers rushing off the escalator, knocking over others to get away.
Eight of the injured were taken to the hospital, many of them with cuts and scrapes. One was treated for a broken ankle. It’s believed the person who screamed, apparently setting off the frenzy, might have been startled by an insect. The escalator’s manufacturer, Schindler, says the cause of the incident is unclear and that it’s assisting in the investigation.
