(New York, NY) — When it comes to famous people, many times you also remember them for their hats. Throughout history, hats have attained celebrity status. French emperor Napoleon was famous for wearing a black bicorne hat, which is a two-pointed hat, typically worn sideways with the points parallel to his shoulders, or a style known as “en bataille.”

In the world of U.S. politics, probably the most popular hat was a top hat worn by the 14th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. He later made a similar hat famous- the Stovepipe Hat, a taller version of the top hat.

In the world of pop culture, Sherlock Holmes wore a deerstalker hat, a type of cap with ear flaps that can be tied up or down. Rap star LL Cool J was known for his bucket hat, Indiana Jones wore a felt fedora and Rerun from TV’s “What’s Happening” wore a red beret.

77WABC Radio host Curtis Sliwa, who’s also the founder of The Guardian Angels and Republican candidate for New York City mayor, is known for his iconic red beret. The signature cap is an important component of the Guardian Angels’ uniform. He continues to wear his beret proudly.
