(Undated) — Severe storms hit New York City and New Jersey on Monday night, bringing extreme flash flooding across the Tri-State area. It turned deadly as well, when two women were swept away in New Jersey.
Up to seven inches of rain fell in some areas causing flooded streets and highways. Water was seen rushing through New York City subway stations. The two people in New Jersey who died had their car swept into a brook. A house exploded in North Plainfield due to a gas leak from the flooding.
Highways were shut down, subway lines were suspended, and hundreds of flights were delayed or canceled at JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark airports.
Officials are cleaning up and urging residents to stay alert for more potential storms.
