(Queens, NY) — New York City’s police commissioner is calling for the NYPD to gain authority from the feds to act on drones for safety reasons.
Commissioner Jessica Tisch wrote an opinion piece in “The Daily News” that points out the dangers drones can pose including being used to drop explosives or fire guns.
She says technology exists to protect New Yorkers but only a handful of federal agencies are authorized to counteract drone flights. Tisch points out that since last year, terrorist groups have released propaganda encouraging drone attacks at crowded venues.
