Deadly Texas Floods and Reactions to the Big Beautiful Bill

dc-president-donald-trump-4th-of-july-celebration

(New York, NY) – The Fourth of July Holiday weekend so far has started with tragedy down in Texas. The lawmakers on Capitol Hill are reacting to the passage of the “Big Beautiful Bill” after President Trump signed it into law from the White House. There was also a huge comeback on Coney Island with the return of Joey “Jaws” Chestnut in the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Competition. Here are your top stories this Saturday:

Big Beautiful Bill Signed Into Law

President Donald Trump was joined by First Lady Melania on the balcony of the White House where he signed off on the massive tax and spending package. The measure narrowly passed in the House of Representatives with a 218-214 vote, which saw two Republicans vote with Democrats against the bill. Conservatives in the GOP were holding out over concerns that the bill will add to the national deficit. The legislation is largely a continuation of the 2017 tax cuts from Trump’s first term.

Deadly Floods Sweep Texas Countryside

Over two dozen people were killed after flash flooding washed out an area home to multiple summer camps. Northwest of San Antonio, rains came pouring down exceeding forecasts by up to 6 inches of precipitation. A total of 10 inches of rain caused the Guadalupe River to overflow. One summer camp on the riverbank, Camp Mystic, an all-girls Christian camp, said around 25 girls were unaccounted for after the storm. So far, authorities say 27 people were killed due to the floods. Search and rescue operations continue with Texas Governor Greg Abbott issuing a disaster declaration for the area.

Fourth of July Celebrated Across the Country

Friday marked the 249th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. July 4th, 1776 was the day that the United States officially broke away from Great Britain. President John Adams had an issue with the July 4th date and believed July 2nd was the true Independence Day for America. The date July 2, 1776 was when the Constitutional Congress voted in favor of leaving the United Kingdom, Adams even refused July 4th event invitations because of this belief. Next year, President Trump has announced a major event to commemorate the nation’s 250th birthday.

Joey Chestnut Reclaims Mustard Belt

Despite a contract dispute that kept him from last year’s competition, there is no bad blood for and no denying that Joey Chestnut is the glizzy-gobbling GOAT. Chestnut, known as “Jaws” took the win in the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Competition on the Coney Island Boardwalk for the 17th time. He was able to down 70 and a half hot dogs, falling short of his 2021 record of 76 franks and buns. After the event, Chestnut told ESPN he will be back next year. Miki Sudo won the pink mustard belt for her 11th time in the women’s competition.

Trump vs Zohran Heats Up

President Donald Trump is not ruling out any legal options when it comes to mayoral hopeful Zohran Mamdani. Mamdani won the Democratic primary, with results released this week showing that after three rounds of rank-choice votes, the Queens assemblyman defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo 56-44. Mamdani’s victory sent shockwaves through the political world. As a self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist, many establishment Democrats have been wary of supporting him and some have outright expressed their opposition. Trump said this Tuesday that he would look into arresting, and possibly deporting Mamdani. In response, Mamdani said the statements were an attack on democracy.
